Boerboel:
The Boerboel [“boo-r-bull”] gets its name from Dutch/Afrikaans words that roughly translate to “farmer’s dog”. It descended from the mastiffs and is also known as the South African Mastiff, South African Boerboel, Borbull, or Bole.
These gigantic protectors were bred to help farmers in South Africa defend their homesteads as they are strong and agile enough to handle all manner of deadly wildlife while also providing invaluable companionship.
Just by looking at this large intimidating Boerboel, you would know that they would make an excellent guard dog. They are also confident and territorial. But despite their large size, this breed is equally known for being loving, calm, and family-friendly and they do exceptionally well with children.
This massive dog needs space to exercise and an experienced owner.
